What Are Dentures?
Dentures are prosthetic dental devices inserted in your mouth to replace missing teeth. Dentures provide support for gums, cheeks, and lips.
At Kane and Kerper Family and Cosmetic Dentistry in Oxnard, we provide high-quality, long-lasting, and firm dentures.
What Are They Made Of?
Today, most dentures are made of acrylic because acrylic dentures are lighter, easier to adjust, and more natural-looking.
Dental dentures are constructed in four different ways:
- Conventional Denture: These are designed to replace all teeth after extraction.
- Upper Denture: These cover the palate and are made of flesh-colored acrylic.
- Lower Denture: These cover the lower teeth and are shaped around the arch of the tongue or teeth.
- Immediate Denture: These dentures are inserted immediately after an extraction to allow gum tissues to heal properly.
Dentures can be made of porcelain, plastic, or both. They are designed to be placed over endodontically treated teeth. They can also be fused with dental implants for strength. Dentures need to be realigned or replaced over some time to maintain oral hygiene and prevent gum diseases.
